Welcome to all owners, breeders and buyers, our horse business is based around success of our bloodstock in New Zealand, Australia and North America. We have progeny from our mares racing in three countries and our aim is to have the TK brand entrenched in NZ and Australian Harness Racing.
Morgan Road Standardbreds have been successfully breeding from a small number of mares for over 30 years with a high degree of success including good 2yo's, Group Race winners and durable racehorses. We operate from 22 acres of lush Waikato pasture just out of Matamata that is central to studs, vets, trainers and race tracks.
Our business philosophy is based around sound business practice, honesty in our horse dealings and producing high quality pacers and trotters in a natural environment that gives them every chance to develop into top racehorses. We are heavily involved in raising our bloodstock on principles and practices taught by the well credentialed Monty Roberts who has had a lifetime of experience in raising, riding and educating all types of horses.
Robert has been involved with pacers and trotters for some 30 years while Pam comes from a show jumping and riding background. The owners’ input has changed over the last few years to being one of looking after the breeding stock and preparing good mannered progeny prior to that progeny entering racing stables.
Morgan Road Standardbreds has been involved in all areas of the standardbred industry including preparing their own broodmares for breeding, foaling down mares, weaning and handling young stock, yearling sale preparation and training.
We have a policy of only placing our horses with trainers that have sound animal welfare practices and who give each racehorse in their stable the maximum opportunity to succeed. We, as owners, do not condone poor training practices, corrupt drug practices or any activities that do not have the horse's best interest in mind when these trainers are working with our horses.
Morgan Road Standardbreds has produced good winners on a regular basis even from what may seem at the time by so called breeding pundits to be unfashionable and under-rated sires. The owners have a sound policy of breeding their mares only to those sires that will provide the necessary breeding nicks and maternal lines that will improve the bloodlines for the next generation of racehorses while at the same time protecting the integrity of the broodmare lines.
